Welcome to the Children's Research Triangle

Therapy

Diagnosis is never the endpoint. The Child Study Center Clinical Therapy Services promote healthy family systems that address the specific needs and abilities of the children and families we serve. Individualized treatment plans make use of a range of therapeutic interventions, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, parent counseling, consultation, and/or service planning.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy helps children and adolescents in a variety of ways. They receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with others, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions to old problems. Goals for therapy may be specific (change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family, addressing trauma related symptoms), or more general (decreasing anxiety, improving self-esteem). The length of therapy depends on the complexity and severity of the problems. Our therapists utilize a variety of interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child-Centered/Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Experiential/Narrative Psychodynamic Therapy.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy focuses on helping the family function in more positive and constructive ways by exploring patterns of communication and providing support and education. We use an integrated treatment approach to address the needs of the child within the family system. We also use some specialized therapeutic models, including Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, intended for children with histories of trauma and abuse, and Theraplay®, a short term, therapist-directed play therapy for children and their parents.

Group Therapy

We offer group therapy programs that are specifically designed to provide effective treatment for children and adolescents with complex issues. Our treatment groups have a parent component, with either a concurrent group or educational workshops including:
